What is the acupuncture process?Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine, sterile, stainless steel needles into specific points on the body that have a high concentration of neuro-vascular tissue. The insertion of acupuncture needles at these specific points sends a message through the nervous system to normalize physiological function, reduce pain, and stimulate the immune system. Acupuncture has a profound impact on organ function, hormonal levels, circulation, sleep patterns, and energy level. What happens during an acupuncture treatment? Before each treatment, Jennifer will evaluate your health by asking you questions about how you feel and your health history. She may ask to feel your pulse, not just to check its speed, but to judge its condition. She may also examine your tongue, which by its color and texture can reveal much about your health. She may perform some orthopedic tests to evaluate your muscular-skeletal condition or injury. Does acupuncture hurt? The needles used for acupuncture are hair-like in diameter and solid, not hollow like a hypodermic, so they do not cut. There is typically a light pricking sensation and then other sensations occur such as heaviness, tingling, warmth, movement, pulling, a slight dull ache, numbness, or a spreading sensation. The sensations stop once the needles are removed. Both during and following treatment it is common for patients to feel very relaxed. How many treatments will I need? The number of treatments required depends on the severity and duration of the symptoms to be addressed. For a cold or flu, one or two treatments can be very helpful. For chronic health conditions of years or even life-long duration, a longer course of treatment is normally required. While a specific problem is being addressed, you may need treatment once or twice a week, and then gradually reduce the frequency to once or twice a month. To simply maintain good health, you may limit your treatments to once every four to six weeks. Within the first 4-6 sessions, the effectiveness of the treatment is often evident and clear treatment goals should be established. Do I have to believe in acupuncture for it to work?Fortunately, no. It works on animals and young children--both of which do not appear to have a belief system about acupuncture. Are there any precautions to be observed on the day of an acupuncture treatment?Yes. To enhance the value of the treatment, the following guidelines are recommended:
What are the effects of regular acupuncture treatments?
What are your fees?
Cosmetic acupuncture:
